When Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn recorded Amplified Heart, they were coming off a difficult stretch in their career. Watt had suffered a life-threatening illness (Churg-Strauss syndrome) in the early 1990s. This album reflects themes of fragility, recovery, and resilience. Lyrically, it leans into heartbreak, uncertainty, and endurance, making it one of their most personal works.
Personally this is one of my most personal favorites. It's an album that I relate to on a spiritual and emotional level.
